TFF reviews the Bear Minimal Universal Pack
This smart UK made pack is the ideal storage solution for those who like to travel light. The Universal Pack is unique in that you can use it as a hip pack, chest pack, sling pack or clip it to the front of your waders when out on the river. The pack is 25cm in length, 10cm in depth and 15cm in width and has a number of clever storage devices for those essential bits.
On the front there is a tippet pocket and depending on what leader you use you can get two or three small spools in here. In addition there is a Velcro patch (with self adhesive Velcro strips supplied) to attach a small fly box- I used the slim Fulling Mill box 11cm by 8cm- ideal for those flies you will use on regular basis. On the sides there are forceps and floatant holders- one is suitable for gel floatants the other for powder. The bag has a waxed canvas outer with a rip-stop water resistant lining and weather-proof zip ensuring that whatever you store in the main compartment stays dry. The main compartment is big enough to hold extra fly boxes, leader material or whatever other bits you need for your fishing session. The bag comes in a range of colours burgundy, black, gold, green, grey and navy. There is an excellent short video on their website which shows the different storage credentials of this bag which is well worth a watch.
I’ve used this bag out on the river clipped to my waders and also on short sessions on my local stillwater as a sling pack. In both instances I found it to be an excellent storage device.
