TFF reviews the Airflo G5 Premium Fluorocarbon
Now into its fifth generation the new G5 Fluorocarbon boasts a ‘stronger product for a given diameter’ offering ‘incredible durability and knot strength’. I’ve been using this material during 2018 mainly for my reservoir work (8.4lb and 11.2lb b/s) for nymphing and pulling.
The fluorocarbon has excellent knot strength with no problems with dropper knots or full and half blood knots. It comes nice and straight off the spool with no memory. The tippet retaining band fits snuggly and allows for controlled release through the eyelet – no pockets full of piles of unravelled leader material – plus each band is clearly labelled for easy identification. The 110-yard spools come in six breaking strains starting at 4.8lb going up to 15.2lb whilst the 30-yard spools start at 2.5lb and go up to 20lb.
This is a good quality, reliable fluorocarbon that hasn’t let me down this season. My only minor gripe is that it doesn’t come in 50-yard spools. It didn’t take me long to get through a 30-yard spool!
