Andy Taylor takes a look at some of the new fly patterns to try this winter.
Every now and then we are all guilty of buying a fly, which catches our eye but then seems not to fulfil its potential when it comes to catching the fish. This, however, is not the case with these stunning Polish Woven Nymphs available from top river angler John Emerson at Unique Flies. These great looking flies have already taken a fare few grayling for me from the Welsh Dee. Tied on size 12 barbless hooks, with a 4.0mm tungsten copper bead at the head, it doesn’t take long for these flies to hit the deck. There are currently four colours in the range: black and chartreuse, grey and orange, olive and yellow and chartreuse and grey. The grayling in the Welsh Dee prefer the grey and orange! These are described as “probably the best quality woven nymphs you will ever see” and I would have to agree. These are superbly tied with a nice bit of bling behind the bead to give you a pattern, which will certainly catch its fair share of winter grayling.
Flies are available direct from Unique Flies.
